All releases: github.com/bonSQL/bonsql/releases.
bonSQL is free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. It comes without any warranty, as the licence sets out; the full text is in COPYING.txt in the program folder and on the licence page.
Files in a release
- bonSQL-<version>-setup.exe: the installer. Program Files or a per-user install, Start menu entries, an uninstaller. Three optional items, all off unless you tick them, each explained inside Setup: the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime (downloaded from Microsoft only if your computer lacks it), the MariaDB PARSEC authentication plugin (downloaded from mariadb.com, only needed for PARSEC accounts on MariaDB 11.6 and later), and the weekly check for new versions.
- bonSQL-<version>.zip: the same program files with nothing to install. Unpack anywhere and run
bonSQL.exe. Needs the Visual C++ runtime from Microsoft if it is not already there. - Source code: the tagged source on GitHub, under the GNU GPL v3.
- A SHA-256 for each file, also printed here.
The releases are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn the first time you run the installer. Compare the file’s SHA-256 with the value on this page before you continue.
What you will need
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. bonSQL also runs on Linux under Wine.
- The Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64). Most computers already have it; Setup checks and fetches it from Microsoft if not.
- A MariaDB 10.11 or later, or MySQL 8.4 or later server to connect to. MySQL 8.0 works but is not tested for every release.
Coming from SQLyog?
bonSQL keeps its settings in its own folder, %APPDATA%\bonSQL. The first time it starts, it looks for
SQLyog’s settings and offers to import your saved connections, favourites and preferences. It copies them;
SQLyog’s own files are not changed, so both programs can stay installed side by side.
